If this is your first visit make sure you play the OLD COURSE not only did they play the Ryder Cup here in 1981 but it is a real beauty, especially the first 6 holes. Get through these with a reasonable score and you should be alright for the rest of the round. Take the first, a Par 3 over 230 yds and you get a sense of what is coming. Infact all of the Par 3's are very long around 180 yds+. The greens are huge, plenty of old fashioned deep bunkers and pretty slick so make sure you go on the practice green, chances are you'll be putting from a very long distance. The course favours accuracy but there is enough to tempt a big hitter. Take plenty of balls and ideally play with a member, apart from knowing what's coming and what to do it only costs 26 for a round which is far better than the published rates. As it is a private members club, even at the weekend you'll be able to whizz round. This course is ideal for your single figure golfer but anyone around 18 will find it a struggle. Holes 12-14 are all Par 5's and everyone a gem. The 14th is downhill and you can really hit a 300+yd drive here. Finally, a nice touch, championship tee markers behind the white tees if you want to know what it felt like in 1981.
