I have played Ulverston a few times now and have found it to be a very fair test of golf. Although some of the fairways are generous strategically placed bunkers and hazards can make you think hard about risk and reward golf. The backdrop is gorgeous as you would expect in the lakes and adds to the enjoyment of a well presented course ,it has a good balance of holes with some challenging tee shots and some requiring carefully thought out approaches. The third fourteenth and seventeen are very good examples. The third has a generous driving area but a well protected green with slopes and overhanging trees and a trap catching anything short and right making the approach the key to scoring on this hole. The fourteenth is a long uphill par three well protected with bunkers and an undulating green that makes three putting easy if you don,t leave your ball in the right part of the green. the seventeenth requires an incredibly accurate tee shot to a hidden fairway which narrows at driving distance ,missing left and a double or triple can easily follow if you par or birdie the hole you have done extremely well. If not take a breath and enjoy my favourite view in golf, the lakes in all their splendor is one aspect the other a spectacular view of the estuary. A real gem

Ulverston is a fantastic course, with a great range of holes. It's a good test for any player and well worth the green fee. it's well kept and some of the views are breath taking. the pick of the holes is the par4 17th, where you play a blind tee shot over a rock face and when you get to the top of the fairway you get a great view of the bay.

Designed by Herd/ Colt in 1895. An inland golf course with many medium length holes on undulating parkland. The 18th is a testing par 4. Overlooking Morecambe bay the course offers extensive views to the lakeland fells.

1 and a half miles South West of Ulverston on A5087. Take the turning for Bardsea village.
