3 loops of 9, hawk heron & viven make up this 27 hole golf course.Hawk & heron are the better holes but it is wide open with little trouble & few bunkers suits mid to high handicaps.Set on top of a hill overlooking the essex/kent hills wind is the only possible hazzard.Tees need work greens a bit wooly.Worth playing but needs improving before considered to be difficult.

I have been a member of south essex since christmas, this course has to be one of the best courses i have played on for a begginner. The fairways are a bit wide and very hard to miss, but the greens are a fairly good size. the ruffs can be tricky but are not to bad.
A plus point to south essex is that it is out in the country so you do not get kids coming over tearing up the golf course, and the people are really nice to be round.
Great course for those who are mid handicapers.
consists of 3 lots of 9 holes so not stuck behind people all the time.

Played on Sunday 26th June for the cost of 25. Very impressed wth the quality of the course, the rough was punishing and the greens were in superb condition. Having the choice of 3 nine meant that it was not to busy either. My one complaint would be that the deals that are displayed in the club house and restaurant are a little misleading.

I have just started playing this course again after a period of a couple of years away from it. It has lots of plus points going for it, like the choice of three 9 hole courses, and it's well laid out holes (although the vixen course is very mundane). In winter/spring 2003, I only have one qualm, and that is the state of the greens. Not the best, would be my comment. There are better in Essex. That aside, at least they were allowing to play on to them in Feburary, whilst most other courses were still on temporary greens. They are to be commended for that.

This course consists of two seperated full size nine hole courses, Heron and Hawk.

There is also an alternative 9 hole course called Vixen. This allows the Golfer the luxury of being able to complete the course in various cobinations.

This is great as you can add variety to every round you pay there, espacially if like myself you play their regularily.

This course is very challenging in the winter, due to the exposure of the front 9 on heron to every element under the sun. And the rough in the summer is so tricky that it can deplete your ball stock very quickly, even for those odd shots that just trickle off the fairway.

It's a very well looked afer course, and the starters, who permanently live in the starter hut, operate the course with military precision, in order to manage three 1st tee's all at once.

The only down side to this course can be when slipping from your front 9 to the back. On occasion we have found large 4 ball groups being slotted in, in front of us, which can penalise those who have made the effort for an early start.

The bar and other facilities are very good, so I would give this course out 8 of 10.

Gently rolling countryside incorporating established woodland. 27 holes, Covered 14 bay driving range.
South Essex welcomes golf societies, corporate and charity days.
