CLUB HISTORY
The Club, inaugurated in 1893, has seen huge changes since those early days. It is undulating parkland course with some water hazards and panoramic views, set amongst the beautiful Yorkshire Dales between Airedale and Wharfedale.

The first three years of its life were spent in Gargrave alongside the banks of the River Aire when it was known as the ‘Craven Golf Club’.

In 1896 the Club moved from the links with its closely mown fairways to the present site on the outskirts of Skipton. The existing site, when acquired, consisted of rough meadows, stone walls and fences and was grazed by horses, cattle and sheep. The course at that time was just 2,216 yards in length and consisted of 9 holes. It was altered in 1911 and then again in 1931 when it was extended to 2,777 yards.

Further changes came in 1964 with the addition of three holes then finally again in 1980 when it became an 18 hole course.

In 1992 the new clubhouse with outstanding views to Embsay Crag was opened.

The course has adopted a nature friendly policy and we are aware of our responsibilities to the local environment (part of the course being situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park). A Tree Management Programme and Wetland Protection Policy is in operation around Eller Beck, which descends from the surrounding fells and meanders through the back 9 holes. The course is home to a wide range of animals, including heron, brown trout, roe deer and rare orchids.

Throughout the course are magnificent views of Sharpaw, Cookrise and Embsay Crag.

The club has 700 members and is particularly proud of its Junior Academy, which aims to develop the numbers of under-18s enjoying golf and its central ethos of self discipline.

In 2005, 47 under-11s received free or subsidised coaching from our Assistant Professional, Ben Mallinson, paid for by the Club. Juniors have full playing rights at Skipton and two juniors were selected for the Bradford Area Junior Team. One junior player represented Lancashire Schoolboys (although he lives in Yorkshire, he attends school in Lancashire).
