Little earth was moved when the course was constructed and the club founded in 1901. It is a natural terrain links running adjacent to the beach. The club was affected quite severely by the great flood of 1953 when modifications to the course and a new clubhouse were neccessary. New and improved bunker placement has been neccessary to compete with the advances in equipment technology over the years, but the course has retained much of its original charm. Sandilands is the home club of ex-European Tour professional Jim Payne.

The course is noted for its outstanding greens. Sandy fairways and gentle undulations make an ideal golfing venue twelve months of the year.
Under the ownership of The Grange And Links Hotel which is situated only a minute away, a variety of golf packages are available offering excellent value for money. Sandilands is rated no.7 in the top 50 winter packages in UK Golfer magazine, December2006.
