GOLF CLUB REVIEWS

I used to play this course on a regular basis(at least 50 times)Having not played on this course for 16months after all the work was carried out i thought i would try it again. I wont be playing here again thats for sure. Im no golf snob but i expect basic golf things on the course but there were no ball cleaners, rakes and most importantly yardage markers. Trying to guess how far it is to the hole and what club to use is a nightmare and slows play down in my opinion. The bunkers if you can call them that are nothing short of a disgrace and can be potentially wrist breakers there that hard, also no rakes but then again theres no sand to rake. The flags on the greens are basically football corner flags with a yellow golf flag attached. The greens are like putting on a shagpile carpet and way to spongy and long with different lengths on some greens. There are also several hidden ditches/streams that run across some fairways and are not visible to you on the tee box and there not even marked with yellow stakes to warn you of the danger(a real nightmare if you've never played there before). Also like most Golf clubs theres a standard dress code but not here it seems. Today i witnessed a bare chested male playing, someone in jeans, a football shirt and people with no collared t-shirts and trainers on. This Golf course could be an absolute gem with fantastic views of central London and the course and holes are very well designed but the general up keep of the course is shocking. I have never witnessed any green staff at work and it seems they just cut the fairways and greens once a fortnight and leave all the dead grass lying around. Like i said it could be a fantastic Golf course but they seem happy to take your money and thats it. The staff were friendly enough, the food is good and it has a driving range(but no yardage markers on it ???). The prices are very cheap but if your a serious Golfer and want to enjoy your round then this not the place to play. The final straw came on the ninth hole. As my brother and myself were putting out on the ninth hole a group of three decided they were going to start there round on the tenth hole ??? With that we decided enough was enough and walked off. This cousre could be one of the best in the area but they just dont seemed bothered. How much would a few wooden stakes for yardage markers cost. Maybe i will return one day but i very much doubt it. If you love Golf avoid this course like the plague.

I have played this course 4 times in the past 2 months and I must say it has improved a lot in the past few years. Fairways are in good condition and the greens normally are, however in my last round some of the greens were virtualy without grass. I find this course a real challenge and good fun.............

My one big problem with this course however is the lack of sand in the bunkers, it is like trying to play out of concrete. Not fun....

What a delight to play, been over a few times since the new owners (Jack Barker) took over, they have really turned things round. Fairways are cut properly as are the greens. Hopefully this will continue as the course has a really good layout. Only problem is that they have closed the cafe and have some small food bit in the pro-shop, not the same if you like your fry up!!!

  Played 15/2/03.

It was pick and place on the fairways...if only we could tell where the fairway started.

The hoofprints on the greens supplied by the 3 stray horses were a particular joy and round was delightfully topped off by 3 rugrats tearing around the back nine on a clapped out Suzuki.

And all for 15.50..........BARGIN

See you there!
