CLUB HISTORY
In the beginning (1914) … a group of ‘Marshside Gentlemen’ of similar persuasion, some being members of the Hesketh Golf Club, decided to form their own Society at the newly built 9-hole Municipal Golf Course and call it ‘The Park Golf Club’. By 1917 they had become well established and elected a Committee of twelve men. Mr James Yates became the 1st President: he was succeeded by his son (James Jnr) – between them the saw 63 years of gradual improvements. In 1936 the Club moved from the original pavilion into a room at the new ‘Whitehouse’ building until they acquired the cedar timber building which is still an important part of the existing Club.
Dr David Marsh of the PGA opened the existing two storey building in 1980. This was enhanced in later years with a new kitchen, porch, Invalid and Ladies toilet. Mr Ted Moule, assisted by Mr George Carter, developed a very successful Junior Section. Notably George was the World’s Amputee Golf Champion on many occasions.
The Junior section went on to provide 20 young men who now have become Professionals. We are proud of the fact that Lee Slattery, Mathew Baldwin and Tommy Fleetwood came from their ranks (Tommy has been Scottish Amateur Champion, English Amateur Champion and represented England in the Walker Cup). Today Les Lucas and John Murray carry on the tradition.
Over the years there have been some true stalwarts of the club who have made it what it is today. Special thanks to: Mike Fletcher who has raised many thousands of pounds with his annual charity day, our President, Mr Alan Curry, who has worked endlessly to further our club, Mr Park Golf Club himself, Mr Peter Devereux who works non-stop and will do anything to improve the Park Golf Club.
Other notable members who support/ed and help/ed the Club to develop are James Yates Jnr., Bill Sutton, Derek Teale, Harry Kelly, Ronnie Whiteside, Peter Dobson, Jack Carr, John Turner, Peter Sewell, Dave Wright, Ken Wright, Les Lucas, Ted Moule, Ritchie Ball, Joe Hopkins and our 12 Founder Members: J Yeates, J Bradshaw, E Howell, S Gerrard, J Barraclough, HP Griffiths, EV Jenkins, T Roberts, R Quinney, JL Pennington, AF Mackinnon and A Lowe.

OTHER INFORMATION
Welcome To Park Golf Club Southport

Park Golf Club Southport is a small private club with a big heart, we are members of the Lancashire Union of Golf Clubs, we play our main competitions on Saturdays from the early hours till early afternoon. Booking times from 8.00 am onwards. What ever section you play in, you’re always made welcome at Park Golf Club.

Park Golf Club plays on the Southport Municipal Golf Course; however, the Park GC card is different to the Southport Municipal Golf Course card. The course varies in length: measured from the Park Golf Club Club’s Back Blocks 6500 yards, from the Municipal Boards 6249 yards, from the White Tees 6169, from the Yellow Tees 5873 yards and from the Red Tees (Ladies & Junior) 5233 yards. Whilst the WHITE TEES move, they always maintain a qualifying medal distance.

The course is a seaside links course with ponds, ditches, small wood coppices and wild birds (swans, ducks, etc). Feeding the birds encourages them to visit you on the tees!!!! The front nine tends to play harder than the back and the prevailing wind from the South West turns our 7th (par 4),14th (par 4) and 17th (par 4) into par 5’s for the average golfer. For some competitions only the front 9 holes are used. There is a card for the 18 holes (click this 18 hold card link) and there is a card that is used for front 9 competitions (click this 9 hole card link).

NOTE: The 150yd marker from the green (green post with a white top) is measured to the CENTRE of each green.

Club Games
All year Park Golf Club , Southport members can play in our Tuesday competitions. In Winter we have a competition each Saturday and during March to October, we have twelve qualifying medals plus more than twenty Trophy winning competitions. Your results, analysis and up-to-date actual and playing handicap for all qualifying games can be found on HowDidiDo.

55 and over Members
Members, who wish, can play in the South West Lancashire Senior Golf League (SWLSGL) against seven local clubs with teams of seven two-balls being selected to represent the Club from April to September: 7 away matches and 7 home matches (2-ball-better-ball stableford).

Seniors 60 and Over
Thursday is the Seniors Day with Stableford rounds played during the Winter months and Medal rounds played during the Summer. Our Seniors also have special Seniors’ competitions including the Summer Aggregate and Eclectic, the team events (Yellow Ball & Waltz), 2 Mixed Texas Scrambles and the Seniors’ Captain Away Day.

Juniors
We have a vibrant Juniors’ Section that caters for Juniors of all ages playing on Wednesdays and Fridays during the Summer months plus four holiday competitions played in August.

What ever section you play in, you’re always made welcome.

Membership
Like most clubs we welcome new members. Our normal year runs from January, but you can join at any time of the year with an appropriate pro-rata reduction of fees. There isn’t a joining fee, only the annual membership fee which includes entry fees for all Match Play and Saturday club competitions. In addition, the Tuesday Fiddle and Thursday Seniors’ competitions each have their own small entry fees as they have weekly cash prizes. The 5 – 6 special Open competitions due in this our Centenary Year have their own entry fees. Along with the cost of an annual contract from Sefton this represents exceptional value for year round golf. The club boasts some very competitive players and further additions (from all ages) would be most welcome.

Club House, Catering and Social Events
We have a well supported Club House and Bar. The Catering is praised by all visitors: it offers a wide variety of freshly cooked meals both for members and visitors. Our Social Events are held in our entertainment room. Throughout the year we run a variety of social events, mainly on a Saturday Night (average – one a month).

SPECIAL OFFERS
We are currently accepting applications for membership. The fees for membership run from January to December.
