To be fair it had been raining very heavily before we played here so the review may have a "damp" feel.

When you have to get a lift to first tee in a buggy you know it's going to be hilly. I've seen other reviews of this course and was pleasantly suprised that it was not the continous hiill climb I was expecting. There are areas where you have to put your head down and just go for it but this makes the course characterful.

The greens were a little unpredictable. Down hill puts were fast and uphill very slow, made judging putts difficult. The greens are well shaped and you need to concentrate on every putt. These are not the easiest greens to read.

On the whole the course was well kept if a little wet (see earlier comment). If you hit a high ball from the tee landing off the fairway then there was a good chance it would plug. Lost a couple of silly balls to this. Lesson - who's fault is it if your in the rough?

Some of the bunkers were a little lean on sand (again who's fault is it if you go in?not the greenkeepers).

Fairways were fair .

I don't want to appear to be running this course down. It is very enjoyable with some cracking holes. The viaduct hole being an absolute peach. I don't think I'd have been happy if I'd have paid 50 to play it though. It is a good course , is enjoyable and a reasonable test but not in the 50 a round category.

Overall it was an enjoyable days golf on a reasonably well kept course. Hopefully next time I play it (and I will be back) it won't have rained like Noah was about to launch his boat beforehand. I think just about any course would have struggled to drain quickly there.

Worth a visit, maybe on a 2 fore 1 or a society day.

Nearly forgot, the vews are fantastic.

Superb championship heathland course in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Its classic design makes it both majestic and challenging. Each hole has multiple tees and greens to USPGA specification. Golf concierge and transport to the elevated first tee. Tro

North/South Leeds Ring Road, take A65 Skipton road, then A6038 (towards Shipley), entrance on right.
