GOLF CLUB REVIEWS

This is a very pleasant parkland course, right in the heart of Ulster. Lush fairways and the greens and bunkers are in good shape, with the possible exception of the 1st green which has apparently never recovered from disease when redesigned some years back. Of the par 5's, 1 & 14 are easily reachable in 2 for the bigger hitters but the difficult par 3's (especially 7 & 11) add balance to the degree of difficulty of the course. The par 4's are navigable with an iron off the tee but all in all this course is a fair test of golf. My favourite hole was probably the par 3, 7th which requires a middle to long iron, downhill to a green which is tight to the trees at the back, with a slope down to the rubbish on the right and a bunker above the green, stopping you from bailing out on the left. The Par 4 10th also requires a little local knowledge and has an intimidating approach shot off a difficult stance if you haven't taken the right option off the tee. Modern clubhouse with good beer make his a course worth playing.
