Houghwood was constructed during 1994/95, amidst some 132 acres and has magnificent panoramic views over the Lancashire Plain and Welsh Hills.

This splendid course has been enhanced by the planting of 25,000 trees to expand the existing mature landscape. The large greens built to USGA specifications, an extensive drainage infrastructure and computerised irrigation system enable play in extreme weather conditions.

To complement this during 1999 a permanent track was built to allow the use of buggies and trolleys all year round, thus creating a unique feature for golfers in this area.

The specially designed stone clubhouse completed in September 1996, extended during 1999, features a spacious Spike bar and terrace overlooking the 18th green.

having recently played at hougwood, i can only say what a pleasure it was to golf there, the course was fantastic, the club house was of good standards though, although one member of staff who seemed to have some authority was rude to my wife when she came to pick me up, overall reccomended

having played this wk end i can say what a pure pleasure it was...besides the weather being lovely the course was in great nick! afterwards me and the good wife decided to dine in the fairways restaurant situated above the club house. the meal was impressive as was the plum waiters knowledge of traditonal ales and wines! he said having visited the South of Frances greatest VineYards he recommended the Shiraz ( a very pleasing choice) however we found it rather odd he persisted to go into great detail about how himself and his sister where planning to get engaged at his favourite country pub in East Ballyshire and wanted 3 children each with excellent cuisine and beverage knowledge!
Thank you Houghwood Paul A

I recently visited Houghwood for the first time and can recommend the golf course. After the golf, I went into the club house which was also excellent. The Pro Shop had plenty of different clubs to choose from If I had wanted to buy them. I sampled a meal from the menu which was also very good. The bar man with ginger hair was a little bit strange though, as when I asked for a pint of Lager, he informed me that "Stone Cold had left WWE" and was I interested? I can't really say I was, but he seemed like a nice lad.

I can recommend this course to anyone

Having recently played the course I can only say....wow!

Tough holes, some were really long and hard others short but dificult!

Played this on a society outing with buggies 30/3/04. The buggies had to stick to the path which meant you did most walking sideways and there were 11 holes with internal out of bounds which has to call into question the design. That said it was a good test with some nice holes. The fairways and greens were in good condition for the time of year and all in all it was very good value for the package on offer. Although I enjoyed the day it wouldn't be near the top of my list to play again.

played at houghwood today (15th march). and think it is a great test of golf but not to difficult if you are a high handicapper. i can imagine it will be a superb course when the new trees have grown. The course has a good variety of holes and keeps you guessing till the last, my favourite hole was the par 3 8th with it's hugh lake infront of the green, i would recomend it to anyone and hope to play there again soon. Even though it has not been great weather the course was in great condition, better thean some i've played in summer. It is quite hilly and fairly tough on the legs but you won't mind that with the great golf that's on offer, and if you do there are buggies for hire with special paths the whole length of the course for them. It's a great course so go now.

Having recently played Houghwood Golf Club as part of a society package with the Accorn Golf Society I would like to praise all the staff who helped make this a very enjoyable day. The golf course itself was in tremedous condition and was a credit to the ground staff, you need to think your way round here and position of the tee is all important don't try and power your way round you will live to regret it, the greens are very receptive and the views breathtaking it is a must for all golfers at all levels. Do yourself a favour and visit Houghwood its worth the effort.

I really love Houghwood and I think it is the best course around. I'm only a junior member but feel the treatment that I receive is brilliant.

The staff are really friendly towards me and my family and we are held in high regard, they also enjoy talking about wrestling.
