The first General Meeting of Henbury Golf Club was held in the Henbury Vicarage on December 10th, 1891.

Membership was to be restricted to persons resident in Henbury with an additional maximum of thirty from outside the parish. The subscription was fixed at 10s 6d per annum.

Three years later the course was enlarged by obtaining some ground to the southern side of Coombe Hill and this enabled ladies and gentlemen to play on partially separated courses!

In 1907 the course was extended to 18 holes. These were reduced temporarily during the 1914-1918 War to 9 holes and the holes which had lain fallow were redesigned and restored to play in 1920.

A massive leap forward in the Club`s fortunes came in 1931 when the land was purchased giving the members total security. It was some 28 years later (1959) that a new Clubhouse was built. This still constitutes the main shell of the building to this day.

In 1996 the members decided to make another great investment and nearly £500K was spent on a new look for the course and a total refurbishment of the Clubhouse interior taking Henbury into the new millennium.

The Club has retained its sylvan charm despite being within easy reach of J17 of the M5 and close to the villages of Westbury on-Trym, Stoke Bishop and Henbury.

We are confident that you will enjoy the quality of the course and the ambience of the Clubhouse and that you will come back for more…

Henbury is an excellent course and much more of a challenge than the parkland setting suggests. Set on the side of Henbury Hill there are views over Bristol and to the distant country. Holes one and two are level then it is 'down the hill' to the lower section. The par three seventh being a real challenge. Playing from an elevated tee down towards the green guarded in front by a small river and a pond to the right.

The tenth is quite steep, back 'up the hill'. The top is beautiful. Mature trees and the woodland of the Blaise estate as a backdrop. The clubhouse is well appointed, and on a good day sitting on the south facing veranda with a drink is hard to beat. After work in recent years the course and greens are in excellent condition , the new bunkers having settled in well.

Well worth a visit to this friendly beautiful course.

Gary & his team are currently re-laying the bunkers which to be fair have always been the poorest part of the course.

The greens are excellent and this parkland course in Bristol is a real test of golf.

Come & play here - you'll all be welcome.

Gary the new head greeenkeeper and his team have done a great job over the winter months.

The new watering system will keep the greens & fairways in tip-top condition & I now believe this to be the premier golf club in the county of Bristol.

It's worth a trip by any true golfer of society group.
