(last played June 08) excellent course in great condition compared to other council run courses. Has to be one of the most stunning public courses about with some lovely looking holes and massive over hanging trees. Off the tees it is fairly forgiving but if you get in the wrong postition the large trees make ball placement very challenging. Highly recommended and you should book first. Only down side, and I find this frustrating with many courses, there are very few yardage markers. There are 150yd markers, only about 4 or 5 on the whole course and it doesn't take much to place markers at 100 and 150 on each whole and at 200 yds on the par 5's and long 4's. Its a piece of wood painted whatever colour and hammered into the ground, hey but still a quality course.

Just played Hartswood yesterday (29 Sep 2005) & was very impressed, although it is not a long course it has some nice course design, with dog legs & overhanging trees that stop a full view in to the greens. The greens were a bit slow when I played but in good condition & overall the whole course was in very good shape for a public municipal. I would recommend & for 12.50 you can not go wrong.

Played a dozen or so courses in Essex, and you can't beat this one for value for money, although the green fees have gone up recently. It is a perfect course if you want to practise accuracy rather than distance. The course is well managed for a municipal course, although it can get a little tired towards the end of the season. I like this course particularly because it is a mature course set in woodland, and not one of these new courses with no character.
