I joined when Flaxby first opened, but after being a member here for 2 years but only playing 6 games in my last year I cancelled my membership (the joys of having a young family). I have recently rejoined. The main course is still a great 18 holes, lots of bunkers and they always seem to be at the right distance for me plenty of water too especially off the 2nd which you tee off over, the 8th a short par 3 and the 10th. The greens are always in great condition and are the best in the area by far. I have played many times at Rudding where as Rudding wins on the picturesque stakes for actual golf and the green keeping Flaxby wins hands down. They also have the Temple 9 hole course which really puts a smile on your face. My father in law says it reminds him off courses in Portugal - never played myself but that must be a good thing. All in all Flaxby is a good golf course and with time will just get better and better. The Club house staff are always friendly and they serve really decent food.

This a brand new course (opened July 2004). Whilst there are expected immature aspects such as new trees (thus the course is quite exposed), the design of the course - with it's undulations, challenging water holes, white soft sand bunkering and thought provoking decisions off every tee this is a budding championship course. The clubhouse proper has yet to be built but perfectly decent accomodation is in place.
I cannot disagree more with those who seem to be put off by a seemingly undiplomatic welcome. I play the course regularly and have ALWAYS been treated with a warm and friendly welcome and the food is excellent. As I have said the course is superbly designed - well worth coming - try it yourself!

I played this course with our golf society and had a fabulous day out. The course is fantasticly well laid out with lots of challenges. Not for th beginner! The bacon sandwiches were the best I have ever had and the meal provided in the clubhouse after our game was just fantastic for the price we paid. This is a must for any golfer.

Played the course at the weekend and was very impressed! The design and layout were exceptional, paying particular attention to the greens, I can honestly say I havent played on greens as good.
The hospitality and value in the clubhouse was exceptional, with tremendous sandwiches and home-made soup. This was certainly a great days golf and will definately be back as often as I can.

Never got to play the course. Was received by the owner/manager in the same way as the golfers in the previous 2 reviews ie; arrrogant and supercilious and absolutely no people skills. Although I had been waiting 4 years to join this club, I was too late as memberships were snapped up a long time ago.
As a beginner I was told in no uncertain terms that the course would be too hard for me anyway....maybe the Pitch & Putt course in Knaresborough would be more suited to my level. Amiised opportunity for all concerned I feel, and particularly the local golf-playing public! Spofforth here I come !

Beware of beginners as you drive into the course as you drive inbetween the 10th and 12th holes. Nice looking course which will be better once some of the trees have grown higher than 12 inches, the amount of sand and occasional water makes it difficult on several holes to decide what club to take. Distance markers could be better, and the manager / owner could do with stint in the diplomatic core, his people skills seem none existant and he made the course seem less than welcoming. When you take into account the price it comes a poor second (maybe even third or fourth) to other courses in the area (e.g. Rudding Park - Spofforth), I won't be returning.

Good golf course to say it is new. Was very impressed with the layout and condition especially of the greens. Will be a fantastic course if well maintained and looked after and promised facilities are provided. Unfortunately we were greated by a very arrogant and impolite entertainer/owner. This has put me off going back and as a professional golfer myself i would not treat visitors to my club in this manner especially with it being a new course just recently opened. Unfortunately i can't see this course developing as i believe it could. It is a great shame that one person has spoilt what would of otherwise been an enjoyable round.
