Do not waste your time or money on what must be one of the worst courses around. The owner has lost all interest and it shows.

The club certainly has a stigma attached, being in Basildon, but that's mainly snobbery, and ingnorance to the fact it's a lovely course overall. I've played it (badly!) on many occasions, at differing times of the day and year. The nearest thing I can call a problem is on one occasion the green at the 13th had the flag inserted in the ground the opposite side to where the hole was, thus everyone's approach shots were being aimed in the wrong direction.
To the course itself. It's an established course, every hole being surrounded on at least one side completely by trees. This makes driving accuracy even more important than normal, as any degree of error down the side with the trees invariably means the loss of your ball! There's a hole where the green drops down maybe 25 feet from the main fairway, very easy to overshoot and lose another ball! A couple of holes where the fairway has a dramatic left to right slope, you must plant your drive on the far left otherwise you'll be playing from the deep stuff on the right. Overall, its visually delightful, testing and usually in very good condition, and for the money, you'll be hard pressed to find a better course.

Its not as bad as some of the reviews mentioned, I was there last week. Weather was kinds as it didnt rain and the course is in a much better condition. Some holes have narrow fairway and require very accurate tee shot. The public paths is my only issue but well nothing can be done about it. Definitely value for money. Watch out for the U turn hole as mentioned - Ive never managed to par this one!!!

I live close by and the school holidays are a bit of a nightmare with the kids so an early start is best, before they are out and about. But it is still a great course and a real test, and it starts at the first which looks like you can tonk the ball straight up to the top of the dogs leg...... hahaha no chance its wrecked my card so many many times, but i love it, and good value.

seems to be getting better and better, the greens are fast but again you must be able to hit the ball in a straight line if not take a few balls with you as you will spend most of your time looking in the trees.
It's a hard course but it's fast becoming one of the best in essex.

I love this course. In comparrison to many in the area it cannot be beaten for value. Very cheap and very testing.
I haven't experienced problems myself but that may be because of early teeing off.
I've heard that Basildon GC is to be taken over later on in the year and will no longer be run by the council, Whether or not this will have any effect I do not know.

this is a very good public course, but once again my only concern is the 13th,14th holes were the local children play but because there is public way there does not seem to be an answer to the problem. But still i would recomend this couse as it is one of the best testest of your ability.

I play this course regularly and have to agree about the vandalism. However it is a good test with some difficult holes and some unforgiving rough for wayward shots. I have played many other courses which are much more expensive which do not trest you as much as this and for a public course it is well looked after considering how cheap it is. However until they get the problem of vandalism resolved it will always be considered down market which is a pity.

recently played the course, and had kids throwing eggs at us and on to the greens, as well as stealing the flags and peoples balls. if they could sort this out it would be a good course, but they seem to have had these problems everytime i've been in the past few years.

Played this course late May,I agree with the previous comments about dress code etc,but to my suprise I found Basildon to be a good test of straight hitting, the course was also very well kept.Potentially a very nice course well worth 10.80 of anyones money.

Not to be recommended. A public course with some long and difficult holes. Dress code is very lax. That's not a complaint but the fact is that vandalism can be a problem. Flags disapppear from greens; bunkers are damaged and even some of the isolated greens have been dug up. If the authorities could do something about this then Basildon would be a much more enjoyable venue for golf.

Undulating woodland. 18 holes, 6236 yards. Par. 72. Practice area.
